What are Directory Listings?
Directories are the folder into which Search engines index websites.
Within each directory, there are sub-directories called 'Categories'. For instance,
the Adult Listing has a category called 'Image_Galleries' and 'World'. You can
often tell which category you're in as the directory listing appears on the
website such as 'Adult> Image_Galleries'.
What are Sub Directory Listings?
In each Directory Listing (such as Adult, Arts, Business, Shopping) there are
sub directories (Image_Galleries, World, Arts, Regional and so on). The number
of Sub Directory Listings refers to the number in each main Directory. For example,
in the above report, there are 12 sub directory listings in the Adult Directory.
How to Read the Directory Listings Table?
The Directories Listings in the table details the name of the Directory, the
number of Sub Directories within that directory, the total number of websites
that are listed in that Directory and the market share of those directories.
The higher the number of Directories a website is listed in will, in theory,
result that website being better indexed by search engines.
How does SearchForecast calculate Total Directory Listings?
SearchForecast analysis aggregates the number of Website listings in each of
the sub directories to provide you with the total number of Website listings
in each directory.
Why are Total Directory Listings important for indexation?
